« The Final Countdown »
Hey folks,
on April, the 25th, the waiting will finally be over. "Singapore Sling" will hit the shelves in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. And to lighten up and shorten these final days of "torture", we decided to provide you with some insights and informations about the record, pictures or sentiments from the Bettie Ford Universe.
So, let's start with part one, the first five tracks from the new album - written in Silvers own words:
Gonna Getcha:
That's a classic to me. It has written "Bettie Ford" all over it. One kickass Riff to build up speed and then the song breaks loose. I don't think there's any better way to open an album. For me its the most "typical" Bettie Ford tune on "Singapore Sling", if you are going to compare it to our first album. All important Bettie Ford trademarks included: The before mentioned kickass Riff, a great refrain to shout along and the song just punches you in the face. Oh, and by the way, I play my first solo in this song. It's a bit hammered together and Don had to play another solo over it, but hey, it's my first solo! I remember it as if it was yesterday: I was sitting in the studio and Kurt told be to bend the guitar strings, while he put some effects of his "Wundermaschine" over and then reversed it. "No matter what you say, no matter what you do, no matter who you are, we're gonna getcha!"
Ode To The Angels:
Possibly one of the greatest hits on the record. My brother says its best Bettie Ford song he's heard so far. Well, it's very melodical and reminds me a bit of Social Distortion and its one of the first tracks where the lyrics are about a serious topic. The song sure has a lot of potential and I just love the titel - "Ode To the Angels", the words alone sound great. You're going to love it.
Burn:
Well, most of you know this one already from our website or myspace site. Its an earthquake of a song and quite a difference from your typical Ford tune. The verses rely almost completely on Rock's bass line, until the guitars chime in in the refrain. I am going to take a leap here and say that it could have been a song from the last Gluecifer era. I remember how I was running around in Koblenz trying to buy strings for the acoustic guitar, while Don was performing the vocal takes in the studio and I came back when we all had to perform the backing shouts ("Rise again") for the c-part. Until then I had heard the song only as a pure instrumental version, but when listening to the whole thing with vocals and all... - I got goose bumps. I kept thinking "Hit!", "Hit!", "Man, how freaking awesome is this?". And I still think its a great song and sometimes I start to smile when I think back to that occassion...
The Big Getaway:
"Oh no, guys, do we really have to do this? Shalalalalalala?". This was Gitz-O-Wars comment when Don first played the song in our rehearsal room. Yup, he was still in the band back then. We recorded "The Big Getaway" a few times now, since it was one of the first songs for the new album. So it was also included on the first "Demo", which we sent out to different record labels (which was ignored most of the time though). But I don't think the song, which is a bit more "calm" then the rest, was responsible for these "reactions". Because in my opinion the song has everything a "Hit" needs. (Yeah, I know I am using "Hit" a lot, but that's "Singapore Sling" to me). Its got a beautiful melodie, and it's a song the girls will love. We've been playing it live for a while now and it's very fun to play every time - Even if we miss a tune now and then, eh, Rock Vegas?!
My Mission:
A royal punch in the face. 1, 2, 3, accellerate. Straight rhythm and Don sings like a devil. Drawn pistols, we against the world, rebellion and so lotta revolt is in the air...
