« The Final Countdown Part 3 »
So, here we go, part 3 of our countdown, again 5 tracks of the album, written in Silvers own words.
For Good:
With "Hold Your Horses" one of my favorites of the new album! Great Melody and a beautiful Solo played by Don. I think it's one of those tracks that you have to listen for a few times until you discover its value - but then it won't leave you again. The song has great vocals and a hook line hidden inside itself, for example the guitars at the end of the track. It's going to be part of our regular set soon, but so far we are still practicing, because it's quite difficult to play tight.
Waste My Time:
Quite a Chant, that has been part of our live set. Don always tries to tell the story, that he wrote the song for a girl, that turned him down - but I don't know if that's true or not, you have to ask him yourself. But I think it's true, I mean, who hasn't been turned down at least once in his life? Anyway, I think it was great that she turned him down, because he wrote this great song and it would be a real pity if he hadn't. I'm sure it's going to be a great live song, once you guys know it and know when to shout "Waste My Time".
Fragile Life:
Well, what can I say, this is the most untypical Ford track, some sort of half-ballad. And to be honest, the song was neither on our recording schedule, nor did we know it exists at all. Don came into the room of our pension one night after a recording session and said "Hey, if Gitz-O-War ain't gonna play on this record, we can go and try something new!". Brat, Rock and I liked the song from the start and we could imagine how the song would sound, once it was recorded, really fast. Well, just like we did with "Rockcity", we recorded an entire new and unknown track for the album and it was fun. By the way, Don wrote the song for his nephew, which I find great.
Hold Your Horses:
Like I said, with "For Good" its one of my favorites right now. But that doesn't really say anything, since that changes quite often with me. But I do remember how Don came along with the song, or, at least part of it. Some part was something different originally, because it's a part of one of our old songs (at least the music) called "Love Machine" from the Rockfather EP which we recycled. We just couldn't let go of it, because it always has been a good song, we always wanted to reuse on time in the future. Maybe some of you guys still know it, but its been ages since we played it the last time. And Gitz-O-War still pretends it's his "Riff", though originally he just wanted Don to write a Riff that sounded like "Mitten in die Fresse rein - Ein Song Namens Schunder" from "Die Ärzte". Anyway, it's a great song with a great melody and I still remember how I got goose bumps the first time. Don's playing a great lick on the main Riff live now, too bad we didn't have the idea when we recorded the album... But it's still a hit!
Fuck Off And Die:
Well, on the one hand I could tell a long story on the background of this song, but on the other hand, I could skip that because first, the lyrics are self explanatory and second, the song has a special "dedication". If you really want to know the whole story, I suggest you go and read our diary somewhere around summer 2005, especially the "Lausitz" Entry. The song itself relies on a stoner Riff and generates, how should I say it, an aura of hate (at least for me). And I am not talking about the lyrics. This track could be a great live piece, especially if people start shouting the c-part with us and I am eager to play it on stage one day. Right now, we are still practicing the song, since it has been a while since the last time we played it and it's not easy to play tight, and it has to be played tight or els you lose all the anger and hate. Don wrote the song quite fast right after the "Lausitzring" event - So I guess he was quite inspired by his anger.
